The EU is playing tough. Tusk proposed a Brexit extension until May 22 on the condition that the UK parliament approves the agreement. Discussion is ongoing and the exact end date may change.

Chinese tariffs and now Mexican tariffs — could take them two steps back

Mexican tariffs Estimates from the Tax Foundation, said that while the Trump administration’s 2017 tax cuts created about 380,000 full-time equivalent jobs, adding tariffs on Mexican products to the existing tariffs on Chinese goods could eliminate almost 610,000 full-time equivalent jobs from the U.S. workforce. By itself, a 5% tariff on Mexican goods could drain off approximately 39,000 full time equivalent jobs, the Tax Foundation said in an analysis on the heels of the Mexican tariff news. Trump announced plans escalating tariffs against Mexico if the country cannot stop illegal immigration. It’s the latest front in Trump’s trade disputes. The administration has already imposed a 25% tariff on $200 billion in Chinese imports. China is coming back with retaliatory tariffs on $60 billion of American imports. FCA proposes ban on cryptocurrency products

The UK’s markets regulator has proposed a ban on financial instruments linked to digital cryptocurrencies, warning that such products could cause huge losses for retail consumers unlikely to understand their risks or value. The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) said products such as derivatives and exchange-traded notes (ETNs) that reference crypto-assets were “ill-suited” to small investors. It cited their “extreme volatility”, the difficulty in valuing them, consumers’ patchy understanding of what they were buying and the increased risk of financial crime. Investors might “suffer harm from sudden and unexpected losses if they invest in these products”, the FCA said, estimating that a ban would benefit consumers to the tune of between £75m and £234.3m a year.
